Psychedelic-Assisted Sex Therapy

Healing Intimacy, Desire, and Connection

Psychedelic-Assisted Sex Therapy (PAST, also known as Ketamine-Assisted Sex Therapy) combines sex therapy with ketamine-assisted sessions to help you work through the deeper layers that impact intimacy, desire, and connection.

Psychedelic-Assisted Sex TherapySexual concerns are rarely just about sex. They’re often tied to vulnerability, past experiences, self-image, and the ways we’ve learned to relate to ourselves and others. Psychedelic-assisted therapy helps creates space to explore and shift those patterns more directly.

Who This Is For

You might be drawn to this work if something in your intimate life feels off, stuck, or disconnected.

This could manifest itself as low desire, anxiety around sex, difficulty with arousal or orgasm, or a sense of distance in your relationship. Or it might feel like shame, self-doubt, or the lingering impact of past experiences.

And some people aren’t in crisis at all—they simply want to feel more connected, more present, and more themselves in their sexuality.

Why Ketamine?

Ketamine can help soften the barriers that make this kind of work challenging.

It often reduces self-judgment and defensiveness, making it easier to access emotions, process past experiences, and reconnect with your body. In this space, clients are often able to experience themselves—and intimacy—in a new way.

What to Expect

We begin by getting a clear understanding of your history, your goals, and what feels important to you.

From there, ketamine sessions are thoughtfully prepared and supported, with integration sessions focused on bringing what you learn into your real-life relationships and experiences.

This isn’t about a single moment—it’s about creating lasting shifts in how you relate to yourself and others.

What Therapy Includes and Excludes

Through conversation, reflection, and support, therapy helps you explore emotions, identity, patterns, desires, needs, and relational dynamics.

It’s important to know what therapy does not include: licensed psychotherapists maintain professional boundaries. Therapy does not include any sexual or physical contact, demonstrations, or intimate activities.

Instead, talk therapy provides meaningful support to help you understand yourself, communicate your needs, and move toward a more satisfying sexual and relational life. When appropriate, we can also connect you with community resources or other forms of support.

Flexible, Client-Centered Care

There’s no pressure to stay in one approach.

Some clients use ketamine-assisted sessions to move through specific blocks and then continue with ongoing talk therapy. Others integrate both approaches over time. We’ll adjust based on what feels most helpful for you.

Important Note

We do not prescribe or administer ketamine. Please see below.

Legal Considerations

Ketamine is a Schedule 3 drug and can be prescribed by a physician or a nurse practitioner in collaboration with a physician.  Affirming Therapy Center does not prescribe, sell, or administer ketamine.

In the state of California, Ketamine requires a prescription and is illegal for recreational use; other psychedelic drugs are not legal, including MDMA (aka ecstasy and molly), LSD, Mescaline, and DMT. Certain municipalities have moved to decriminalize psilocybin and psilocin such that psilocybin therapy could be provided. Always consult a medical professional and seek legal guidance if unsure.
