Psychedelic-Assisted Couples Therapy

A New Way to Reconnect and Communicate

Psychedelic-Assisted Couples Therapy (PACT)—also called Ketamine-Assisted Couples Therapy (KACT)—offers a different way for partners to move through conflict, disconnection, and stuck patterns.

Ketamine-Assisted Couple TherapyUsing low-dose, prescribed ketamine, couples are able to stay present and communicate during sessions—often with less defensiveness and more openness than usual. This creates an opportunity to experience each other differently in real time.

Who This Is For

Many couples come in feeling like they’re having the same conversation over and over again without getting anywhere.

There may be distance, miscommunication, or tension that escalates quickly. Sometimes there’s been a rupture or loss of trust. Other times, things just feel flat or disconnected.

KACT is for couples who want something to shift—not just in what they talk about, but in how they relate to each other.

Why Ketamine in Couples Work?

When relationships feel stuck, it’s often because both partners are caught in automatic reactions—defensiveness, shutdown, or frustration.

Low-dose ketamine can help slow that cycle down. It can make it easier to listen, to stay present, and to respond with more openness and empathy. In that space, new kinds of conversations—and new experiences of each other—become possible.

How It Works

We start by understanding your relationship—what’s working, what’s not, and where you tend to get stuck.

From there, we prepare intentionally for ketamine-supported sessions. When appropriate and prescribed, couples may self-administer low-dose ketamine in a supported setting, where the focus is on guided interaction rather than going inward alone.

In follow-up sessions, we spend time integrating your ketamine-assisted experiences and helping you carry those shifts into your everyday relationship.

Flexible, Ongoing Support

This work doesn’t replace traditional couples therapy—it can deepen it.

Some couples use ketamine-assisted sessions to break through stuck patterns—and then they continue with regular talk therapy. Others incorporate it periodically as part of ongoing work. We’ll tailor the process to your relationship.

Important Note

We do not prescribe or administer ketamine. Please see below.

Legal Considerations

Ketamine is a Schedule 3 drug and can be prescribed by a physician or a nurse practitioner in collaboration with a physician.  Affirming Therapy Center does not prescribe, sell, or administer ketamine.

In the state of California, Ketamine requires a prescription and is illegal for recreational use; other psychedelic drugs are not legal, including MDMA (aka ecstasy and molly), LSD, Mescaline, and DMT. Certain municipalities have moved to decriminalize psilocybin and psilocin such that psilocybin therapy could be provided. Always consult a medical professional and seek legal guidance if unsure.
