AFFIRMING MARRIAGE AND FAMILY COUNSELING AND SEX THERAPY CENTER, PC
KETAMINE TREATMENT DISCLAIMER

Ketamine treatment is a drug-assisted approach to treating certain mental health issues. The treatment involves the administration of a low dose of ketamine that is thought to interact with certain receptors in the brain. Because the therapists at Affirming Marriage and Family Counseling and Sex Therapy Center, PC (“Affirming Therapy Center”) are not medical professionals, they are not permitted to administer ketamine to clients, and clients who are interested in such treatment must receive it through a separate, third-party medical provider.

There is preliminary evidence that supports the finding that psychotherapy in conjunction with ketamine treatment can extend the potential positive effects on clients suffering from mental health issues. It is important for clients to be aware that benefits are not guaranteed, and while ketamine treatment is generally considered safe, there are risks and side effects to be aware of. Clients considering this treatment should consult with a medical physician to learn more about these risks and side effects.

Because the therapists at Affirming Therapy Center are not medical professionals, they are not suitable for determining whether or not ketamine treatment is medically safe and appropriate for a client; their input is limited to the psychotherapeutic benefits that may be possible with ketamine treatment. It is solely the responsibility of a client interested in ketamine treatment to: (1) confirm with a licensed physician that they (client) are a suitable candidate for ketamine treatment prior to receiving any such treatment; (2) to notify their therapist if they (client) will be receiving ketamine treatment and to keep their therapist apprised of any changes in their mental health (changes in mood, symptoms, etc.) prior to receiving any such treatment; and (3) to sign a release of liability with Affirming Therapy Center, releasing their therapist from liability from the administration of the ketamine treatment prior to receiving any such treatment. If a client does not meet any of the three (3) previous requirements, their therapist will not be able to accompany the client during ketamine treatment.

Affirming Therapy Center may provide its clients interested in ketamine treatment with referrals to third-party medical providers that have pre-approved Affirming Therapy Center’s therapists to be present during administration of ketamine treatment. However, such referrals are being provided as a convenience only; they do not constitute an endorsement or an approval by Affirming Therapy Center of any third-party medical provider, and clients are free to find their own third-party medical provider to administer ketamine treatment if they choose. Affirming Therapy Center does not receive a referral fee or other financial benefit from any third-party medical provider that they may refer clients to.
